5. Bispekilen - a wedge in time
Bispekilen
The gradual rise of land masses, often due to geological processes such as the melting of glaciers, impact historical sea levels and coastal landscapes.
The different sea levels of Oslo can be seen in a staircase showing the levels, in the comons area.
On the Bispekilen side of the Håkon Vs gate/street, there have been major archeological findings.
Recent excavations have uncovered new shipwrecks from Oslo's Renaissance harbor, as well as harbor structures, moorings, warehouses, and thousands of artifacts that provide valuable insights into the historical activities of Oslo's old harbor.
Archeology
Bispekilen is constructed to provide direct visual contact with Akershus Castle, from Medieval Oslo. A staircase down to the water is practical, as well as an attempt to illustrate the different levels throughout the different historical stages.
